The largest sagebrush. On favorable sites, can be 14 feet tall but usually 4-7 feet tall. Grows on a variety of soils on arid valleys and foothills to mountain slopes. Found on drier sites than mountain big sagebrush. Can be planted on sites in the 10-14 inch precipitation zone. It is a highly nutritious shrub for big game, upland game birds, and sheep, especially during winter.
