An 8 foot tall shrub native to central Asia. This species is more heat and drought tolerant than our native chokecherry. Its use by wildlife is similar to chokecherry and is also well suited for shelter belts because of its dense form. White, early spring blossoms produce edible fruit that have a true cherry flavor and have a single pit. Elevation range is from 3000-7000 feet. This hardy species is also known as Manchu cherry.
