A native, evergreen shrub that grows up to 4 feet tall and is found below 7500 feet on sandy and rocky soils. Tolerates dry, calcareous, saline, and slightly alkaline sites. Young branches are bright green, jointed and unique in appearance. Excellent for wildlife habitat on well-drained sites receiving 8 to 12 inches of precipitation.
