A native, shrubby, evergreen plant with an average height of 8 feet but can reach heights of 20 feet on favorable sites. Occurs between 3500 and 8000 foot elevations on south or west facing exposures. Its leaves are somewhat similar to bitterbrush. Has numerous pale yellow flowers in early summer. Provides high value wildlife and livestock forage. Occurs on dry rocky hillsides, benches, and mesas in Utah.
